Sep 27 — WHEN YOU SLEEP (Opening Short)

Thursday’s feature will follow the Cape Breton Island premiere of New Waterford director Ashley McKenzie’s 12-minute short, WHEN YOU SLEEP, co-produced by Nelson MacDonald and starring Winston DeGiobbi.

Ashley and Nelson ground their films in a common passion for movie-making as art, and a shared belief that storytelling is a big part of what makes us human. They blend formalist movie-making with gritty realism, as they bring personal dramas from their island home to an international audience. “Our next film,” they say, “will be our best film.”

Their next film is WHEN YOU SLEEP, a short drama starring N-Dub’s Winston DeGiobbi and Toronto’s Eve Harlow. A young couple’s relationship is already filled with tension when nocturnal visitors bring matters to a head.
