Our Winter 2010 season opens with a stunning documentary about Canada’s famously enigmatic and talented pianist Glenn Gould. An excellent 1993 movie, 32 Short Films About Glenn Gould, focused on Gould’s eccentricity; this one explores his inner life by way of previously unseen footage, photographs, private home recordings, and diaries, plus the personal recollections of lovers and intimate friends who have never spoken publicly before.
Noreen Golfman, the MUN film studies prof who has run our sister series in St. John’s for more than 30 years, calls Genius Within, “a fabulous doc, one of the best I have ever seen, moving and deep, not a word I use lightly.”
