Oct 15 Cold Souls

by Parker on October 9th, 2009

A surrealistic comedy starring Paul Giamatti, Emily Watson, and David Straithaim. Giamatti plays a stage actor (named Paul Giamatti) who is struggling with preparations for his role in Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya.

Paul reads a New Yorker story about a high-tech company that promises to alleviate suffering by extracting, freezing, and storing people’s souls. It seems just the ticket for him, until his chickpea-sized frozen soul falls into the hands of international soul-traffickers, who hand it off to an ambitious but talentless Russian soap-opera actress.

An ambitious, elegantly shot, tonally cool first feature written and directed by Sophie Barthes. – New York Times
